This Slow Cooker Sausages with Tomato, Bacon & Mushroom Sauce recipe takes the humble snag to the next level, it’s budget friendly and makes the perfect winter warmer meal. The sausages become melt in the mouth tender and are infused with the tomato bacon and onion flavour that becomes part of the sauce.
I serve with mashed potatoes and steamed greens and it’s a winner every time.
10 Beef sausages
2 diced tomatoes
1 large sliced brown onion
1 rasher of middle bacon diced
6 button mushrooms sliced
Pinch of vegeta
1/4 cup of water
2 tablespoons instant gravy (I use Green’s brand)
*I leave and serve the sausages whole but you can slice them if you prefer.
You can seal the sausages in a hot pan for a minute or two on each side to give them a nice colour, but if I’ve been time poor I’ve skipped this step and just as good so completely optional.
Place the sausages in the slow cooker followed by the tomatoes, onion, bacon and mushrooms.
Sprinkle over the vegeta and black pepper to season, add the water and cook on low for 5 hours.
Make your gravy as per the packet instructions but using half the amount of water required so it’s super thick. In the base of the slow cooker there will be loads of juices so this will thin out the gravy, so add your thick gravy to the slow cooker and give it a really good stir.
Cook for a further 30 minutes and serve with mashed potato and vegetables and enjoy.
